WHAT IS IT?

This simulation shall proof that sustainability in forestry is more economic in a long term than non sustainable economy.

HOW IT WORKS

The lumbermen move through the forest and when they hit a tree, they chop it down.
Then they go back to their lumberyard.
At the same time the trees grow with a certain probability.

HOW TO USE IT

The user can make his own presettings about:
- how many trees are in the simulation at the beginning
- how many lumbermen are there at the beginning
- how fast the trees reproduce
- how many different kinds of trees threre will be
- the probability of a new tree to be generated

THINGS TO NOTICE

A certain proportionality between the number of lumbermen and the growing rate of trees, respectively the number of different species of trees is essential to achieve sustainability.

The red line of the graph shows the worth of the forest and the green line shows the actual number of trees in this forest.

THINGS TO TRY

Change the settings of growing rate, number of trees and lumbermen and the probability of a new tree to achieve sustainability.

EXTENDING THE MODEL

The integration of new variables, such as:
- soil quality
- parasites
- different growing rates for each kind of tree
- lazy and motivated lumbermen
